Cosplay Update!

July 15, 2009

When was the last time I did this?  …Have I ever done this?

Okay!  Selphie.  I am making a costume of Selphie Tilmitt from Final Fantasy VIII.  And I need to have it done done done TOMORROW because I’m doing a photoshoot with ze Belén!  Now, the dress is totally done and looks fabulous.  The boots are good, I conveniently already had them.  I have this crazy body shaper pair of leggings that makes me look FABULOUS-ER.  Alas, I have some other issues.

ONE, and most importantly.  MY HAIR.  I am blonde.  I was going to just style it and wear “Irvine’s hat” over it.  Then I couldn’t find a cowboy hat, so I decided to just dye my hair.  Unfortunately, the only temporary dye I could find did very little to my hair except make it a bit darker.  So now it’s light brown-ish.  It would be a lot better if it had a reddish hue, but nooo.  So I decided to just live with it.  THEN I couldn’t get it to style right.  So I am frustrated.  I found out another way of doing it, which I shall try tonight, and I bothered to go search for a cowboy hat.  I think they have them at Target, so I’ll try there tonight.  Then get a round brush at Walgreens.  That should work.

TWO, the wristband.  First of all, I hate it when I can’t tell if something is blue or purple.  I could have sworn it was purple.  Every other cosplayer in the world thinks it’s blue.  I think they are full of crap.  So I got a purple ribbon, and I’m going to back it with something stiffer than a ribbon, then…probably make it into one piece I snap onto my wrist.  Wrapping it doesn’t seem to work because arms taper and the ribbon slides down.  Boo.  That’ll be a venture for this evening.

LASTLY, the necklace.  Has anyone seen her necklace?  No.  The best shot of her collarbone/neck/chest area, the b&w CG picture in the beginning of the game, has no necklace at all.  The artwork of Selphie from Ehrgheiz isn’t to be found much larger than…well, not large enough to see her necklace.  And God knows the game graphics aren’t detailed enough to show it.  Plus all headshots of her are NECKLACE-LESS.  I was forced to go roaming around the internet to see what cosplayers had found.  Apparently it’s kinda like a clover.  …I am guessing it just looks like her zipper pull (which I didn’t make look like her zipper pull, that’d be annoying).  So I should probably bother making that tonight, too.

Other than that, though, I am mega excited.  If nothing goes horribly wrong, this should be an AWESOME cosplay.

In other news, life is awesome etc. etc.  I know that’s kinda generic, but it is!  I am very happy at the moment.  Club is going well, the boy is as sweet as ever, Grace and I have been hangin’ out, I saw Star Trek again, I WANT to see Harry Potter…cosplay…art…yeah.  All is right with the world.

So I guess that’s all I have to say right now.  I’ll post again when I have something more to rant about!  Because I KNOW EVERYONE LOVES THAT, HAHAHAHAHA.

Thank you, -ek-.

Set Construction was today.  I now have even more paint all over my painting pants.  Le sigh.  At least the stage is fully painted.  I also got footage of our resident haunted site (it’s not really haunted at all–there aren’t even rumors of haunting–but it would certainly be scary enough to be a haunted place), the broken-down convent next to the school.  The place looks like it walked right out of Silent Hill, I swear.  Broken glass, locked doors, rooms with scary bathrooms, anything and everything you could want in a survival horror game.  I wanted to videotape it before they started really cleaning up the building (they’ve already patched some of the broken windows–but there are a LOT of them, they’ve just scratched the surface on that front).  But I digress.

Tomorrow is Spaghetti Supper.  I hope to GOD the Ephors really wear those brown robes.  I actually can’t remember…but I refuse to wear a toga.  If someone objects to my costume (name tag of “Hello I am an Ephor” included), I’ll just wear something nice under it so I can opt out of dressing up or something.
In other news, I saw the sneak preview of “Dan In Real Life”.  I highly recommend it, it’s a very sweet, funny, and well-made movie.  Steve Carrell is wonderful, as always, and the story is just extremely endearing.  One really grows attached to the characters.  It’s lovely.

For whatever bizarre reason, I started a piano arrangement of “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”.  I lost a lot of steam after the first refrain (read: I stopped working on it), but it sounds nice so far.  Sometimes I can’t tell when an arrangement is just too busy or not.  Considering I have absolutely no formal experience in arranging, this doesn’t surprise me.

Speaking of piano, Clavinova Festival is swiftly approaching.  Even more swiftly comes the Halloween recital where I usually play my song for said Festival.  I’m afraid Up is Down in running far behind.  It sounds pretty good for how long we’ve been working on it, but it’s nowhere near up to par with the rest of my songs–or the rest of my division, I can assume.  I’m having trouble figuring out where it’s missing parts…again.  I always hit this spot in the song at some point, but this year I have no time to go out to Foster’s and work on it.  Which is terrifyingly problematic.  I wry.

I believe I’m going to go draw and watch Chicago.  Or something of that sort.  I’ve wanted to watch Chicago for a while now, so I might as well do so at last.   But then again, my friend is likely to call very soon, so perhaps I should not invest in the movie when I know I won’t have time to finish it.  I suppose I could do my homework while I’m waiting…but that would be responsible.  And I am not on good terms with responsibility this evening, so I will instead slack off.
